The Battle of Lexington, Missouri - also commonly referred to as the "Battle of the Hemp Bales" encompassed nearly every tactic utilized during the war in a single battle.  Part siege, with a mixture of frontal assaults and improvised mobile breastworks made of hemp bales, a faulty cavalry charge, a week long artillery duel, and even numerous mistaken surrenders.  The city of Lexington still retains scars of battle - including a 12lb cannonball lodged in one of the four Greek Revival columns at the County Courthouse on Main Street.
